Jay A. Katz

JAY A. KATZ is a graduate of George Washington University School of Law (J.D., 1967 with honors), where he served on the editorial staff of The Law Review, and New York University School of Law (LL.M., 1968). He is admitted to practice before the State and Federal Courts of the State of New York and is a member of the bar of the United States Supreme Court.

Prior to becoming Of Counsel with McElroy Deutsch in September, 2005, Mr. Katz was a member of the New York City law firms of Marchi Jaffe Steinberg Crystal Katz and Burke and Jacobs Persinger & Parker. Mr. Katz has extensive experience in litigating complex commercial law matters at both the trial and appellate court levels, including breach of contract, general corporate, real estate, banking, employment, copyright, trademark and breach of licensing agreements. He has also counseled clients in matters affecting business transactions, with a particular emphasis in the representation of authors, artists, designers and investors in the commercial exploitation of their intellectual property, including agency and representation agreements, trademark and copyright rights and general merchandising rights, involving toys, games and movie and television licenses, to name a few.

Mr. Katz recently completed an option and purchase agreement for the film, TV, and merchandising rights to a best selling science fiction book series for a world famous author. He has guided clients through the process of developing and marketing new technologies, including the preparation of non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements and the negotiation of complex licensing and royalty agreements. Mr. Katz is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
