Katherine Otto - Of Counsel

KATHERINE OTTO is Of Counsel to the Colorado office located in Greenwood Village, in the Denver Tech Center.  Ms. Otto represents clients throughout the state of Colorado. Her practice is primarily focused on the defense of licensed healthcare professionals in malpractice cases or disciplinary matters involving the various health care Boards, but she also handles complex or catastrophic personal injury defense and small-business litigation.  Before joining the Firm as an associate in 2008, Ms. Otto completed a one-year judicial clerkship with the Honorable Gerald J. Rafferty.

Ms. Otto has experience in all aspects of civil litigation, and has tried cases to jury verdicts in both state and federal court.  Ms. Otto has also appeared numerous times before the Office of Administrative Courts on behalf of her clients.  Ms. Otto frequently gives presentations to healthcare providers and entities on risk management and compliance.  She is devoted to serving her clients’ best interests, and to zealous advocacy in the courtroom and beyond.  One of the unique aspects of her approach is her commitment to identifying creative and sustainable solutions to the issues a healthcare provider faces when confronted with a claim, lawsuit or disciplinary investigation.

In addition to her practice, Ms. Otto donates her time to the legal profession in various ways.  She serves as Communications Director for Colorado Defense Lawyers Association, a nonprofit that exists to support and serve the interests of Colorado civil defense lawyers.  She also serves as Board Member to the Colorado Pledge for Diversity, a non-profit committed to enhancing diversity in Colorado law firms.  She is a member of the Defense Research Institute, including the Women in the Law subcommittee, Colorado Bar Association and Denver Bar Association.  Ms. Otto frequently teaches Continuing Legal Education courses to her colleagues and peers on topics specific to her practice.  In addition, Ms. Otto devotes a significant amount of time to pro bono legal services, including representation of military veterans in pursuit of service-connected benefits for physical and mental conditions.
