Matthew A. Lipman

MATTHEW A. LIPMAN is the Managing Partner of the Firm’s Philadelphia office and a Practice Group Manager in the Firm’s Fidelity, Surety and Construction Services Practice Group.  He focuses his practice on complex litigation matters, particularly those involving commercial and banking disputes, construction projects and fraud. Mr. Lipman represents companies and individuals, both as plaintiffs and defendants, in state and federal courts.  He has tried jury and bench trials to verdict and has handled dozens of arbitrations and mediations. Mr. Lipman also has appeared before local and administrative bodies, such as Philadelphia Municipal Court, the Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Unemployment Compensation Board of Review.

Mr. Lipman regularly represents insurance companies in subrogation and recovery matters related to fidelity bonds and employee dishonesty policies.  With extensive collection experience, Mr. Lipman has assisted corporate and private clients recover millions of dollars in breach of contract matters and from individuals who fraudulently transferred assets, secreted funds and orchestrated Ponzi schemes. 

Mr. Lipman also represents banks in litigation and collection matters and those involving foreclosures, workouts, forbearance agreements and bankruptcies.  He regularly assists clients with complex transactions involving businesses and real property including asset purchase agreements, stock transfers and commercial property sales and purchases.  Additionally, he has handled dozens of residential real estate settlements.

Mr. Lipman is a member of the bars of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of New Jersey. He is admitted to the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Pennsylvania, the Northern District of Ohio, the Northern District of Illinois, the Northern and Southern Districts of Texas, the Eastern District of Michigan, the Southern District of Indiana, the Western District of Oklahoma, the Eastern District of Missouri as well as the District of New Jersey, the District of Columbia, and the District of New Mexico.  In addition to regularly practicing in those courts, Mr. Lipman has been admitted pro hac vice or has worked closely with local counsel in matters venued in New York, Delaware, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Minnesota, Missouri, Colorado and California, among other states.

Mr. Lipman is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Rutgers - Camden School of Law.  While in law school, he worked as a law clerk for Monteverde, McAlee & Hurd, which merged with MDM&C in 2006.  

Mr. Lipman is a member of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations and is active with the Rules and Civil Practice Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association and the Surety and Fidelity Law Committee of the American Bar Association.  Each year, Mr. Lipman serves as a judge for the Hunter Moot Court competition at Rutgers School of Law – Camden.

Mr. Lipman has authored and presented seminars on Pennsylvania construction law, Pennsylvania surety law and piercing the corporate veil in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Lipman lives in Cherry Hill, New Jersey with his wife and two sons.
