Timothy E. Burke

TIMOTHY E. BURKE is a member of the firm's Litigation And Insurance Practices group.  He attended Rutgers College, where he graduated cum laude as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  Mr. Burke attended law school at Rutgers Law - Camden, after which he had the honor of serving in a judicial clerkship with the Hon. Michael Patrick King, Presiding Judge of the Appellate Division.  

Mr. Burke has compiled extensive trial and appellate experience, primarily in the defense of businesses and professionals in matters involving Premises Liability, Lawyers Professional Liability, Accounting Malpractice, Employment Practices, Fraud Claims, Commercial Litigation, Automobile and Trucking Liability, Civil Rights Litigation, Construction-Defect Litigation, Construction Accident Litigation, Products Liability and Alcohol Liability.  He has performed internal investigations for his institutional clients and counseled clients on risk management and strategies for claims avoidance.  Mr. Burke has tried numerous cases to verdict and argued before the New Jersey Supreme Court, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit  He has represented clients before such State and Federal agencies such as the United States Department of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights and the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development.  With more than 30 years of sophisticated litigation experience, Mr. Burke has distinguished himself as an innovative and resourceful advocate for the rights of his clients. 

Mr. Burke also advises and represents insurers in state and federal courts in matters involving complex coverage claims under a multitude of coverage programs, including general liability insurance, Lawyers Professional Liability insurance, commercial automobile and truckers liability insurance, environmental claims insurance, umbrella and excess insurance, first party property insurance, errors and omissions insurance, and directors and officers insurance.  He has represented the firm’s insurance clients in complex declaratory judgment actions and in the defense of bad faith claims. 

Mr. Burke has lectured on matters of insurance coverage before the Institute of Continuing Legal Education.  He has served as a member of the New Jersey Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Essex County Bar Association, the New Jersey Defense Association, the Professional Liability Defense Federation and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.
