Wendy C. Tomey - Of Counsel
WENDY C. TOMEY is Of Counsel to McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, LLP. Ms. Tomey served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Marie L. Garibaldi (Ret.) of the Supreme Court of New Jersey in 1983.
Ms. Tomey began her career at the firm of Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti in Newark and Morristown, New Jersey, where she practiced in various areas, including general corporate law, real estate, tax, and tax-exempt bonds, before joining the health care law firm of Manger, Kalison, Murphy & McBride in Morristown, New Jersey. She briefly left that firm when she served as Associate General Counsel to the Allegheny Health Care System in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from 1995 to 1998. When that health care system declared bankruptcy in 1998, Ms. Tomey left to commence her own private practice of law as Tomey Charitable Law, providing a wide range of legal services to many local nonprofit organizations and on behalf of her former employer, Kalison McBride Jackson & Robertson in Warren, New Jersey, where she served Of Counsel from 1998 to 2011, when that firm merged with McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter. Ms. Tomey’s areas of practice include extensive corporate, federal and state health care regulatory and tax-exemption representation for New Jersey and Pennsylvania health care organizations, including hospitals, physician organizations, foundations, and other entities, and for general nonprofit and taxable organizations.
In addition, Ms. Tomey has written on various health care related topics, most recently co-authoring a chapter entitled “Physician Joint Ventures,” in the publication Representing Physicians Handbook, 2d ed., (American Health Lawyers Association, 2009).
Now residing in Virginia, Ms. Tomey continues her work representing health care, corporate, and nonprofit clients in both traditional regulatory, corporate, tax-exemption, and compliance issues and in new and emerging areas of the law, including HIPAA, accountable care organization s and other issues generated by the landmark federal health care reform legislation signed into law by President Obama on March 30, 2010. Ms. Tomey is admitted to practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
