Craig J. Smith - Partner

CRAIG J. SMITH practices in the area of employment litigation.

Mr. Smith focuses on defense of employers against claims of discrimination, sexual harassment, and alleged violations of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act, the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, the New Jersey Conscientious Employee Protection Act, Title VII, and the Civil Rights Acts, among others.

Mr. Smith is a graduate of Colgate University and the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary. Prior to his joining the Firm, Mr. Smith engaged in the private practice of law with Smith & Smith in Easton, Pennsylvania (1979-2001) and with Coyle, Martyak & Smith in Phillipsburg, New Jersey (2001). In private practice Mr. Smith represented both plaintiffs and defendants in employment litigation, commercial litigation, and personal injury litigation, handling matters in the trial courts of Northampton, Lehigh, and Pike Counties in Pennsylvania, and Warren and Hunterdon Counties in New Jersey, as well as in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania, and for the District of New Jersey. Mr. Smith joined the Firm in 2007 after serving as Deputy Attorney General in the position of Assistant Section Chief of the Employment Litigation Section of the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General where he represented State agencies and officials in defense of employment litigation in state and federal courts.

Mr. Smith was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 1979, to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in 1983, and to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania in 1997. He was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of New Jersey in 1999 and to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey in 1999. Mr. Smith was admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in 1997 and to the United States Supreme Court in 1987.

Mr. Smith previously served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve from 1989-1999.
