WALTER W. SIMMERS was a corporate attorney who primarily practiced in the areas of corporate finance and general corporate law. His clients included a diverse mixture of technology and basic industry manufacturers in the areas of telecommunications, software, biotechnology and materials. Within the bio-technology area, his clients included medical device manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies.

Walt received a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1970 and a J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1979.

After graduating from Penn, Walt served in the United States Navy as a supply officer. Between 1971 and 1976 he served as a budget officer on the personal staff of Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, Director Division of Naval Reactors, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission and Department of the Navy. His primary duties involved budgeting for Navy and Atomic Energy Commission research and development programs administered by General Electric and Westinghouse, including programs related to the Trident, Los Angeles, and Seawolf class reactor plants.

Walt has lectured and written on business and finance topics to various business groups and co-taught a course on entrepreneurship.

In addition to his professional activities, Walt has served on a number of boards and commissions on a state and local level. He served on The University of Connecticut Health Center Institutional Review Board, and the Board of Directors of the Biomedical Engineering Alliance and Consortium (BEACON).
