Christian Hammerl - Of Counsel

CHRISTIAN HAMMERL is a privacy lawyer with an extensive background in the areas of corporate and technology transactions, corporate compliance and project finance.  He is an IAPP certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPM, CIPP/U.S., CIPP/E) and an examiner for EuroPriSe GDPR compliance certifications.  Christian Hammerl graduated with a Doctorate of Laws degree from the University of Vienna, Austria, and holds an LL.M. degree from UC Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law.  Christian Hammerl is admitted as an attorney in New York (1992) and California (2001) and as a solicitor in England & Wales (2006) and Austria (2009-2016).

Christian Hammerl’s practice focuses on California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and general privacy law compliance as well as on the provision of outsourced Data Protection Officer (DPO) services.  His CCPA practice builds on the depth of his experience in designing and managing GDPR based privacy compliance programs, including tools for efficiently managing data subject requests.  Clients benefit from his in-depth understanding of the California Attorney General’s CCPA regulations gained as a member of the California Lawyers Association’s CCPA working group.

Christian Hammerl started his U.S. practice as an associate in the corporate and litigation departments of Herzfeld & Rubin, P.C., in New York, N.Y., before joining the legal department of the Taiwanese computer manufacturer Acer Inc., in San Jose, CA, initially, as corporate counsel.  After serving Acer for more than a decade in various roles, including managing the legal affairs of Acer’s EMEA operations and heading its U.S. legal department, Christian Hammerl returned to private practice as of counsel to the central European firm of Wolf Theiss.  As the focus of his practice shifted from renewable energy and technology transactions to ecommerce and privacy law, Christian Hammerl returned to California to practice privacy law full time as counsel with 2B Advice LLC, an integrated privacy solutions and data protection advisory firm in San Diego, CA (2016 -2019).  He is based in California and continues to support the CCPA implementation efforts of major companies.

Christian Hammerl has been a frequent commentator on important developments in the area of privacy law in an international context.

His experience and thought leadership has been recognized, among others, by the New York State Bar Association, appointing him as a Delegate to UNCITRAL’s proceedings in connection with its Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records project, and the California Lawyers’ Association where he serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Internet and Privacy Law.
