JOHN P. BELARDO is a partner of the Firm. John has vast experience representing both public and private clients in the areas concerning land use and development, zoning and planning approvals, real estate transactions, municipal and environmental issues including wetlands regulations, NJDEP compliance and Mt. Laurel affordable housing. John regularly appears in state courts where he has tried cases successfully in the litigation and appellate context. John presently serves as the Township Attorney for Bedminster and Bernards Townships in Somerset County and the Planning Board attorney for Raritan Township in Hunterdon County and for the Borough of Bound Brook. John is the attorney for the Bernards Township Sewage Authority. John previously served as the Township Attorney for Warren and Franklin Townships in Somerset County. He has long served as Associate Counsel to the New Jersey League of Municipalities. John holds a Diplomate in Municipal Law from the Rutgers University Center for Governmental Services.
John regularly represents public entities, developers and citizens before zoning and planning boards in a wide range of matters, including proposals for telecommunications, office, industrial, commercial and residential development. John has appeared before numerous local and state agencies on behalf of his clients, seeking approvals, addressing project specific issues and resolving conflicts in the development process among all parties. John also regularly teaches courses in government, ethics and land use for his municipal clients, the New Jersey League of Municipalities.
John is a 1982 graduate of Lehigh University where he received the Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, in Finance and Economics and was elected a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society. He obtained his Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall Law School, cum laude, in 1985. Mr. Belardo later attended New York University and was bestowed with a LL.M, Masters of Law in Taxation in 1988.
John is admitted to the Bars of the States of Maine, New Jersey and New York, the United States District Courts of New Jersey and the Southern District of New York, the First Circuit Court of Appeals, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Tax Court and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Maine, New Jersey, New York and Somerset County Bar Associations. Besides his American citizenship, Mr. Belardo is a citizen of the Republic of Ireland and the European Union.
