Overview

NICOLE A. LEONARD is part of the bankruptcy and restructuring practice group and concentrates her practice in the areas of corporate bankruptcy, financial restructuring and debtor-creditor rights. Ms. Leonard has represented trustees, secured and unsecured creditors, insurers, sureties, debtors and purchasers of debtor assets in bankruptcy matters and in related proceedings primarily in New Jersey, New York and Delaware. Representative cases include: Winstar Communications, Inc., The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, Inc. et. al. Transvantage Solutions, Inc., et. al, Jeep Eagle 17, Inc. et. al., Chopper Express Inc. et. al., Quebecor World (USA), et al., 315 W 35th Associates LLC, Sportcraft Ltd., Monroe Center, LLC et. al., and Horizon Health Center, Inc.

Ms. Leonard has written multiple articles and has moderated and spoken on panels on bankruptcy topics in New Jersey and New York. She is also the Managing Editor of the McElroy Deutsch Bankruptcy Blog.

Prior to McElroy Deutsch, Ms. Leonard served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Rosemary Gambardella, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of New Jersey in the Newark vicinage from 2007 to 2008. From 2005 to 2007, Ms. Leonard served as a Judicial Law Clerk on a rotating basis to the Honorable Rosemary Gambardella, the Honorable Novalyn L. Winfield, the Honorable Morris Stern and the Honorable Donald H. Steckroth in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. Ms. Leonard has also served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Mark M. Russello, Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Bergen County.

Ms. Leonard is admitted to practice in the State of New Jersey, the State of New York and the District of Columbia. In addition, she is admitted into the United States District Courts for the District of New Jersey, the Southern District of New York and the Northern District of New York.

Ms. Leonard is on the New Jersey Bankruptcy Law Foundation Board. She is also a member of the following organizations: the Turnaround Management Association and NJTMA Network of Women (“NOW”), Committee; the American Bankruptcy Institute; the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation (“IWIRC”); the New Jersey State Bar Association, Debtor-Creditor Section; the New York State Bar Association, Business Law Committee; and the New York Institute of Credit.

Additionally, Ms. Leonard is serving her second term as a member of the District VA Ethics Committee for Essex County, New Jersey where she has served as a committee investigator and a panel chair. Ms. Leonard is also a member of the Historical Society of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
